6.Application
p – Phenylenediamine(PPD), is one of the most simple aromatic diamine, is also a kind of widely used intermediates, can be used fpreparing the azo dyes, polymers, also can be used in the production of fur dyeing agent, rubber stabilizer photo developer, para-phenylene diamine other commonly used inspection iron copper sensitive reagents. Is very important fphenylenediamine dye intermediates, mainly used faramid, azo dyes, sulfur dyes, acid dyes, etc.
Dyeing
This compound is a common hair dye. Its use is being supplanted by other aniline analogues derivatives such as 2,5-diamino(hydroxyethylbenzene 2,5-diaminotoluene. Other popular derivatives include tetraaminopyrimidine indoanilines indophenols. Derivatives of diaminopyrazole give red violet colours. In these applications, the nearly colourless dye precursoxidizes to the dye.
Rubber antioxidant
PPD is easily oxidized, fthis reason derivatives of PPD are used asantiozonants in production of rubber products. The substituents, naphthyl, isopropyl etc affect the effectiveness of their antioxidant roles as well as their properties as skin irritants.
Other uses
PPD is also used as a developing agent in the C-41 colphotographic film development process, reacting with the silver grains in the film creating the colored dyes that form the image.
